Week 6: Sweat, Sun, and Shoot

Week five was a whirlwind, especially with the three-day shoot I was preparing for.

We kicked off with some pre-planning on Wednesday evening, setting up the entire room to make it feel homely. Our client is very particular about the details —everything had to be perfect, from pillow flaps to no wrinkles. The next morning started early at 6:30 a.m. to catch the first rays of sunlight at 7 a.m., and the shoot went full throttle after that.

It was a steep learning curve for me, adjusting to the angles and pace of a big shoot, but I was well-prepared with my mood board. Still, things got a bit chaotic. By the end of day one, we wrapped up after the last natural light at 6 p.m. and had to use studio lights to continue, which didn’t quite match the sunlight’s effect. But that was an important lesson in how lighting plays a huge role in photography.

On Friday, I was able to juggle shoots for two brands—one for the linens brand and another for a wellness brand by the poolside. It was an exhausting, yet rewarding, three days.

By the end of the week, though, I realized something—my excitement for cameras had grown. Watching the photographers work, I started to feel an urge to try it out myself. I wasn’t behind the camera yet, but the fascination with how it all worked was there.

A glimpse of the shoot.
